Mount Popa

Do  you  love  being in  different hill  stations? Then you  are sure to love to  visit some of the well  known hill  station  during  your  trip  to  Myanmar. There are  a number of  hilly  areas  in Myanmar which are very popular  among the  tourists  fro  their natural  beauty.  Among the hill stations of the Myanmar Mount Popa is one of the most well known names.  Thousands of tourists every year visit this beautiful mountain. 

Mount Popa is a mountain located in the central part of Myanmar.  It is a well known mountain situated in the east of Bagan.  It is a well known volcano in the region. However this volcano is believed to be extinct. The mountain is situated approximately 50 Km east to Bagan.  When the weather is clear you can see this mountain from sixty km away.  If you are visiting river Ayeyarwady then you may see this mountain clearly on fine weather days. The volcano is  some 1518 Km above the  sea level.   

If  you  want  to explore  more you  can go  to the southwest side of  Mount Popa  where  the pedestal  hill  or  Taung Kalat is situated.  It is a 737 meter precipice of volcanic plug. A  Buddhist monastery is   situated at the summit of the pedestal hill.  According to history hermit   U Khandi maintained the 777 steps to the summit of the pedestal hill.  Sometimes it is also referred to as Mount Popa.  But to avoid  the  confusion  the  volcano  that  has a  huge  crater is called Taung Ma-Gyi or the  mother  hill. From the pedestal hill you can get a panoramic view too.   therefore  you  must  pay a  trip to the  beautiful mountain  area during  your trip to  Myanmar.
