Kandawgyi Lake

Myanmar or Burma is one of the most well known countries in Asia. The country is well known for its natural beauty.  Tourism in Myanmar is slowly spreading its wings. There are a number of lakes, national parks as well as mountains that offer panoramic view.  You can have a wonderful time visiting these beautiful tourist destinations in Myanmar. 

Kandawgyi Lake is one of the most well known tourist destination in Myanmar.  The literal meaning of Kandawgyi Lake is the great royal lake. This beautiful lake was formerly known as the Royal Lake. This lake is one of two major lakes in Yangon in Burma or Myanmar. This lake is Located in the east of the Shwedagon Pagoda. This beautiful lake is an artificial or man made lake that gets water supply from the water channels from Inya Lake. Water from Inya Lake is channeled through a series of pipes to Kandawgyi Lake. It was created to provide a clean water supply to the Cantonment or modern-day downtown of Yangon during British colonial administration. It is approximately 5 miles or  8 km in circumference, and has a depth of 20 to 45 inches 50 to 115 cms.

The beautiful lake is one of the most well known tourist attraction in Myanmar. The 150-acre lake is surrounded by the 110-acre Kandawgyi Nature Park as well as the 69.25-acre Yangon Zoological Gardens.  Yangon Zoological Gardens consists of a zoo, an aquarium as well as an amusement park. Both  of  these two tourist attraction are very  popular  among the national  as well as  the  international  tourists. 

The lake itself is bordered by Natmauk Street to its north as well as east, Bahan Street to its west, whereas Kanyeiktha Street to its south. Along the eastern shoreline of the lake is the famous Karaweik which  is  a concrete replica of a Burmese royal barge which was built in 1972.
